The Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against three individuals for their involvement in actions aimed at damaging mines
31 July, 2024
The Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against three individuals involved in an organized action aimed at damaging mines.
The investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that since March 2024, the accused, along with others, organized picketing of the Kukorokhnali and Shukruti underground mines owned by Magharoeli Ltd. They positioned themselves in front of the mine entrances, preventing workers from entering and working.
The investigation also revealed that on July 21, 2024, between 07:25 and 08:00, after the operator of the ventilation system exited the yard of the ventilation building at Magharoeli Ltd. mines, the accused locked the entrance metal door with a chain, wires, and a lock. This action prevented the on-duty operator for the new shift from entering the building, and the obstruction continues to this day.
By taking these actions, the accused intentionally disrupted the operation of the ventilation system, which is critical for the functioning of underground mines. This disruption could lead to the rotting of fastening materials, damage to electrical equipment, collapse of mine masses, and paralysis of the entire underground operation.
All three individuals have been charged under Article 226 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (organization and active participation in a group action that disrupts the operation of an enterprise), which carries a penalty of up to 3 years of imprisonment.
The Prosecutor’s Office will request the court to impose bail as a measure of restraint for the accused, in accordance with the law.
