Due to the high public interest, Office of the Chief Prosecutor considered necessary to publicize one of the episodes of untargeted spending of budgetary funds of the Special State Protection Service. Investigation materials reveal that GEL 673 260 was spent on the cosmetic procedures of Mikheil Saakashvili and his entourage in 2009-2012, out of this amount GEL 399 495 was spent only for M. Saakashvili’s cosmetic procedures. Namely, he repeatedly went to different clinics abroad for so-called “botox” and epilation procedures.
As for the information released by the accused Mikheil Saakashvili in the Media, in connection with the unreliability of evidences obtained by the investigation, we would like to explain that a number of incontrovertible evidences and factual circumstances are found in this criminal case, showing that GEL 8 837 461 was spent on personal needs of Mikheil Saakashvili and his entourage from the budget of the Special State Protection Service. In support of the foregoing, all necessary accounting and settlement documents showing the expenditure, which were removed from the Special State Protection Service, are found in the case; therefore, questioning the above-mentioned expenses is aimed solely at misleading the society.
Also, with the view of informing the public, we would like to further explain that embezzlement of SSPS-owned GEL 8 837 461 is also confirmed by the relevant findings of the State Audit Service.
For the evidence, see part of the documents confirming untargeted expenditure from the budget of the Special State Protection Service for cosmetic procedures.
Office of the Chief Prosecutor of Georgia intends to make other evidences in the case available for the public.
