Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia Launches Criminal Proceedings into as Case of Extortion Committed with a Threat of Divulging Information on Sexual Orientation

Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged Z.S. with extortion of property in larg9ce volumes by threating to divulge defamatory information, the crime punishable under Article 181§2(c) of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Investigation conducted into the case has revealed that after Z.S. found about Z.P.’s sexual orientation, Z.S. gradually extorted Z.P. certain amounts of money on various occasions, under a general purpose and intention.
Officers of Didube-Chugureti Division of Tbilisi Police Department, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, arrested Z.S. on December 19, 2018. Based on a petition filed by the prosecution, Tbilisi City Court Sentenced Z.S. to detention as a measure of constraint.
Charges brought against Z.S. entail imprisonment for a term from four up to 7 years as a measure and extent of penalty.
