Tbilisi Court of Appeals sentenced 16 years of imprisonment to the defendant for an attempt to murder the spouse with the extreme cruelty

Tbilisi Court of Appeals has fully accepted the evidence, submitted by the prosecution. The Court of Appeals annulled the 1 December 2018 judgment of Telavi District Court and found guilty defendant F.I. for the attempt to intentionally murder his spouse with the extreme cruelty under the Articles 111-19, the subparagraph “b” of the third paragraph of Article 109 of Criminal Code of Georgia
The evidence, submitted by the prosecutor, has confirmed that on 12 April 2017, in the morning, in Telavi, F.I. stabbed his spouse Kh.A. several times in the abdomen and chest, with the attempt to intentionally murder her with the extreme cruelty on the ground of jealousy, in the presence of the mother and two minors. As a result of timely medical assistance, the Kh.A. survived.
Law enforcers detained F.I. on the same day in Telavi. The F.I. has been charged under the Articles 111-19, the subparagraph “b” of the third paragraph of Article 109 of Criminal Code of Georgia (an intentional attempted murder with the extreme cruelty) and remanded to custody. 
Telavi District Court classified the F.I.’s action under the Articles 111-19, 108 of Criminal Code of Georgia (an intentional attempted murder) and determined the type and the length of the sentence to 9 years of imprisonment, which was appealed by the prosecution.
Tbilisi Court of Appeals annulled the 1 December 2018 judgment of Telavi District Court and found guilty the defendant F.I. of accused crime and determined the type and the length of the sentence to 16 years of imprisonment.
