The Tbilisi City Court found N.M., former deputy governor of Krtsanisi district of Tbilisi, guilty in an attempted fraud carried out for obtaining funds of another by deception under the Criminal Code of Georgia, Articles 19 and 180, third part, subsection “b”.
The evidence assessed during the trial proved that N.M., who, since 29 October 2015, was a deputy governor of Krtsanisi district of Tbilisi, promised an interested party to auction off a state-owned plot of land with terms and conditions that would be favorable to the party. After the purchase, N.M. also promised to assist the party in receiving a construction permit for the planned hotel on the land. In exchange, N.M. requested 50 000 USD.
Law-enforcers arrested N.M. on 16 December 2015 as soon as 50 000 USD was transferred to N.M. N.M. was charged under the Criminal Code of Georgia, Article 338, third part, subsection “e” (receiving a bribe of extremely high amount).
The Tbilisi City Court re-qualified the pressed charge against N.M. and found N.M. guilty in an attempted fraud carried out for obtaining large amounts of fund and sentenced N.M. to 7 years of imprisonment.
