Court Convicts an Individual Charged with Beating of a Transgender Woman

Tbilisi City Court fully upheld the evidence submitted by the prosecution and found A.G. guilty of beating a transgender woman under Article 126§1 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Evidence investigated during the trial confirmed that the defendant, A.G., inflicted injuries on transgender S.O. by punching her several times, because of his intolerance of her gender identity. The incident took place in Tbilisi. In result, S.O. suffered less serious bodily injury, without any deterioration of health.
A.G was charged with the offence specified under Article 126§1 (Beating or other violence that has caused the victim physical pains, but did not entail the consequence provided for by Article 120 of Criminal Code of Georgia) of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Tbilisi City court found A.G. guilty as charged, sentencing him to deprivation of liberty for a term of six months.
