On July 4. 2017, Batumi City Court completely upheld the evidence submitted by prosecution and found Uzbekistani national R.A. guilty of trafficking in persons under Article 1431§3(c) (two counts) of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Investigation of the evidence submitted by the prosecution during the trial undoubtedly confirmed that R.A. took two Uzbekistani citizens to Georgia by deceit, as if on their employment terms, seized their passports, limited their freedom to move freely and subjected them to modern-day slavery. By using intimidation, violence, blackmail and forcibly recruited them, made them to engage in prostitution and to offer their sexual services.
Since R.A. was avoiding the investigation, he was indicted in absentia under Article 1431§3(c) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, was sentenced to pre-trial detention and search for him was declared.
Court found the absconding defendant guilty as charged and sentenced him to deprivation of liberty for a term of 13 years, as a type and size of penalty.
