Representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia Attend the Meetings Dedicated to Preventing and Combatting Violence against Women and Domestic Violence, and Protection of Victims of Violence

Representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia attended the meetings with population organized by National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the Gender Equality Council of the Parliament of Georgia in Gurjaani and Telavi. Fight against domestic violence and violence against women, its prevention and protection of victims of violence were discussed at the meetings.
Representatives of the Gender Equality Council of the Parliament reviewed activities and future plans of the Council. In addition, they informed society about the important changes brought to the Georgian legislature due to the Istanbul Convention. Representatives of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs thoroughly informed the population regarding the state authorities’ response to domestic violence and violence against women. Director of the State Fund for the Protection and Assistance of (Statutory) Victims of Human Trafficking also attended the meeting and presented state services available to the victims of violence to population.
Representatives of non-governmental organizations, media and local government attended the meetings with community conducted in Gurjaani and Telavi.  
Public meetings with population will be concluded in Marneuli and Bolnisi tomorrow, July 4. The public meetings aim to inform society about the Council of Europe Convention (the Istanbul Convention) on ‘Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence’.
