Investigation in Progress at the Prosecutor’s Office into A Possible Fact of Exceeding Official Powers While Arresting D.G.

With respect to the recommendation submitted by the Public Defender of Georgia to the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia regarding alleged improper treatment toward D.G. by police officers during his arrest, investigation unit of Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office has launched investigation into the fact of alleged exceeding official powers by using violence during the arrest of D.G. by employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia under Article 333§3(b) of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
Investigation was launched due to report of the leading procedural prosecutor of D.G.’s criminal prosecution case according to whereof, on June 7, 2017, defendant D.G. stated at the hearing of initial appearance of the accused at Tbilisi City Court that the officers of the 10th Unit of Gldani-Nadzaladevi Division of MIA Tbilisi Police Department verbally and physically abused him during his arrest near Gldani cemeteries, Tbilisi, on June 5, 2017.
Relevant investigative and procedural actions are actively being carried out on this stage, and society will be further informed of a final decision rendered after their conclusion.
